WIU Admin Eliminates All Librarians!

This summer the administration of Western Illinois University undertook radical action: it eliminated every one of its nine (9) professional librarians. When current contracts expire on May 14 (2025), Western will no longer employ a practicing academic librarian.

With declining enrollment, the librarian firing action is catastrophic for Western since student retention and recruitment are of paramount institutional importance. Educators, librarians and concerned citizens throughout Illinois and the United States have quickly risen to express amazement and outrage that an accredited, comprehensive, master's level university would not only endanger its good academic standing, but so brazenly choose to fail its own tuition-paying students. Join us in urging WIU to reverse this disastrous decision!
